Events
2015
We had our first general body meeting as a new student organization on September 3rd, 2015. AMSA IIT introduced themselves, explained what we offered as an organization, upcoming events, and a chance for members to get involved. We also had Dr. Allison Case as our guest speaker to talk about her experience as being a member of AMSA!
We attended the Global Aids Advocacy Rally to urge senators to fight AIDS by restoring cuts to PEPFAR. It was a great opportunity to meet students and professionals from other AMSA Chapters and health organizations! Members from the AIDS Foundation Chicago and staff from the Illinois Senate were there as well.
Our next GBM gave current AMSA members the opportunity to join a committee for the school year! These committees are perfect for working on your leadership skills. Upcoming events were also discussed.
A former UofC ADCOM led mock medical school interviews to help our members be ready to knock theirs out of the park! Thank you Dr.Nathan West for facilitating this event and for sharing your expertise from both a medical student and physician's perspective.
We hosted a viewing party for National Geographic's first ever live Deep Brain Stimulation Procedure. The event blended live coverage from the operating room — a first on U.S. television — that chronicled what science and medicine have historically taught us about the brain, and what is yet to be discovered. Snacks were served!
It was great to see everyone at our third general body meeting of the semester! The meeting, hosted in the Bog during lunch, went over updates from all four committees, including information on the AMSA newsletter and website, as well as upcoming events. We also had a t-shirt pickup for those of you who bought AMSA t-shirts.
We held a Lunch/Discussion with Dr. Eric Wieben, Ph.D., on Friday, November 6, 2015 at lunch time in Life Sciences 152. This lunch discussion presented AMSA members with the opportunity to ask any questions they had (health-related), including those about his work/research. Pizza was served!
Our chapter had the chance to attend the AMSA Fall Conference at UIC on November 21st, 2015! The topic of the conference was 'Communication at the Center of Healthcare' and featured a variety of sessions focused on training participants around this theme. It was great to see such a good turnout for this conference!
